At Crowan Primary School our vision is for all children to dream 'big'. With this ambition, coupled with hard work and effort, we believe that everyone can achieve their goal and be successful.
At Crowan Primary School, we want children to believe that with hard work and effort, anything is possible in their lives. Therefore, our curriculum is designed to ensure that all children get the very best start in life, leaving Crowan with the skills they need for the next stage in their journey.
We have designed a curriculum that we believe is driven by the needs of each and every child, the community in which these children live, research and the National Curriculum. We teach the children to be active in their learning, whilst also being creative and critical thinkers, preparing them for a lifetime love of learning. This curriculum is embedded in a ethos of a safe and caring environment, where all children are given the skills (both academically and socially), knowledge and opportunities to succeed.
Curriculum Drivers
As a school community, we have identified three drivers (inspiration, aspiration and diversity) which are at the heart of our curriculum.
Inspiration
At Crowan, we want children to be excited and interested by their learning, both inside and outside of the classroom. Asking key questions and allowing children to think creatively and critically encourages them to extend their learning beyond their initial thoughts and ideas. Our curriculum is complemented by visits to support and develop children’s cultural capital, building a wealth of knowledge to enhance their learning and experiences.
Aspiration
From a young age, children are seen to be curious and inquisitive in their learning. Through an enquiry- based approach to teaching, we aim to build on the skills that children develop in the Early Years with lessons that make our children question ‘why?’ ‘how?’ or ‘what?’ allowing them to be confident in giving their own thoughts and opinions. This encourages children to deepen their own understanding and more successfully retain information over time. We aim that children will become independent learners, always keen to challenge themselves and seek out further information and opportunities away from the classroom.
Diversity
Our curriculum is designed to support the children deal with the modern, ever-changing world in which they live. We want the children to grow up open-minded and curious about the world around them, recognising and accepting how everyone is different. We recognise the uniqueness of every child within the school and our curriculum is planned to meet the particular needs of our children and the community in which they live. We want our curriculum and learning experiences to enable pupils to live well with others and develop skills for lifelong learning.
